Meganisi has two main ports, Vathy and Spartochori. We recommend to spend lunch time in Vathy as it is more traditional and accommodates for a beautiful walk which allows visitors to discover the island. The local cuisine is great and the small taverns and restaurants can provide fresh fish and local wine.

See Skorpios up close as we cruise towards the privately owned island, the once famous “Onassis” island, where the Greek shipping tycoon Aristotle Onassis married Jackie Kennedy. There you have the opportunity to swim in blue crystal clear waters in the closest proximity to the beach permissible. From Skorpios we head to the island of Meganisi, which will be our next stop for our official morning swim, in mesmerising light blue waters. Meganisi island has beautiful beaches with local taverns and bars. A lovely island with a laid back atmosphere. Tourists mainly consist of sailing individuals or sailing groups doing island hopping. Scorpios is best known as an island that once belonged to the Greek shipping magnate, Aristotle Onassis, also known as a husband of Jackie Kennedy. Fun fact is that this island was once completely barren, until Aristotle ordered that 200 varieties of trees get imported and planted all over its surface. His love for this island is evident in the fact that both him and his children are buried on the island. Since the Onassis family can no longer support to maintain the island and new owner is still not confirmed, the Skorpios is free for tourists to visit and explore until further notice.

MEGANISI

Meganisi is the favorite meeting point among those sailing their yachts throughout the Ionian sea during summer months which is why it is often called Sailor’s Island. There is not much ground transportation and those who want to visit its beautiful beaches and magical villages of Vathi, Katomeri and Spartochori will have no choice but to take a boat or a yacht charter.
